15 Years of PhpMyAdmin

Phpymyadmin, this week has turned 15 years of old!

phpMyAdmin started as a humble project with fine aspirations. Inspired by Peter Kuppelwieser’s MySQL-Webadmin, Tobias Ratschiller began work on phpMyAdmin in 1998, but later abandoned the already popular project in 2000 due to lack of time & resources. It was eventually Olivier Müller, Marc Delisle and Loïc Chapeaux that in 2001 eventually registered phpMyAdmin at SourceForge, and development has never looked back, it was second birth of PhpMyAdmin.

Today, with over 200,000 direct downloads per month, it has evolved into a Energetic concept in its own right. The number of lines of code has risen from 13,786 to 509,761, made possible by over 650+ contributors from across the globe, translated into 70+ languages, and the total cost of it all coming in at the relatively cheap total of $7,485,785.

Happy Birthday phpMyAdmin. All the best for the next 15!

Drupal Common Errors

Few time the website itself working fine, however there were red error messages showing up on almost every page.

After further looking, they were not really errors, they were PHP notices. The notices sprung up during server upgrades that migrated from PHP 5.2 to PHP 5.3. At the time, we ended up just changing the PHP error setting to no longer display notices, and the crises was averted. however looking back now we could have done it this way.

  1. Log into the site with an admin account
  2. Go to Administer -> Error Reporting
  3. Select the option to only log errors to the log Save

This is a good thing to do for all production sites.

Couple of reasons why hire me: * Unlike other great developers I know how important is to keep an open communication channel, updated you for a single update on time, finish products on or before time. * My working hours are very flexible. Excluding hours between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM IST I can be available with couple hours notice (depends on communication channel). * I've started developing web applications 3 years ago. By now I was exposed to different areas of science (not only computer science), so when you need not only coder, but also someone that thinks logically/analytically, I'm your guy. * Even though my rate may seem high I can assure you that I'm efficient and spending time purely on planning and development. I'm never charging for anything not directly connected with project. In the end you're not just getting an efficient developer (peace of mind), but also someone that will help you with project in general.
